Customer Spotlight

How businesses are integrating
health content into their business
practices and solutions.

With contribution from Careplans.com

The practice of healthcare has always been driven by the acquisition, evaluation, and delivery of information. And as today's technologies feed the demand for quick and reliable information access and exchange, more and more software and e-product offerings are moving online. No more DVDs arriving in the mail, no more custom downloads to install, just immediate access 24/7 via an internet connection — anytime, anywhere.

Elsevier Licensing customer, Careplans.com, is one of those innovative groups meeting their customers' needs with a dynamic online resource. Their web-based applications, tools, and resources support nursing assessment and the planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care — all in an easily accessible electronic environment that decreases documentation time and redundancy and standardizes practices in the care planning process — for both caregivers and students.

And by integrating Elsevier"s standardized nursing languages, Nursing Interventions Classification (NIC) and Nursing Outcomes Classification (NOC), into their Careplan Builder application, it gives users instant access to the taxonomies and the ability to use them effectively to build care plans quickly and easily.

Turning to Elsevier for content to enhance their product offering was an easy choice. "Our goal is not only to meet the needs of our current and potential customer base, but to exceed them," states Greg Leach, Director of Marketing & Business Development at Careplans LLC., the parent of Careplans.com. "We selected NIC and NOC to be used as a part of our Careplan Builder application because these nursing classifications are extremely comprehensive, research based, and highly recognized by industry leaders as the standard when it comes to Interventions and Outcomes."

It's the shared commitment of both Careplans.com and Elsevier Licensing to deliver exactly what the customer needs, exactly how they need it, which drives both successfully forward in the world of electronic healthcare information.

Elsevier Goes Global
for Japan Relief

Following the devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan, Elsevier mobilized its global networks and employees worldwide put fundraising plans into action. Inspired by their colleagues in Japan, where every single employee donated to relief efforts, averaging more than $270 per employee, Elsevier offices across the globe launched their own efforts, including bake sales, book sales, raffles, charity quizzo nights, and other collections for the U.S. Red Cross, British Red Cross, Japan Red Cross, and Korean Red Cross — with donations matched by the company.

Corporately, Elsevier also provided free online access to medical information for healthcare professionals in Japan through the Emergency Access Initiative, a partnership of the National Library of Medicine and a division of the Association of American Publishers and other publishers. EAI provides temporary free access to full-text articles from major biomedicine titles to healthcare professionals, librarians and the public affected by disasters. The idea for EAI was proposed in the aftermath of 9/11, but its first real use was in response to last year"s earthquake in Haiti.

Jenifer Hodges

A member of the Licensing team since February 2010, Jenifer is the point person for a lot of customer inquiries and communications as the Licensing Sales Coordinator. Her favorite thing about the job is the wide array of people she gets to interact with and the flexibility and innovative possibilities the team has to make sure the customer gets what they need, when they need it.

Originally hailing from Atlanta, Jenifer is based out of the Philadelphia office. Outside of work, you'll find her spending time with friends and family and exploring the city with her dog, an adorable chow named Polo.
